Dear Members,
55th Annual General Assembly: The 2024 Interline Celebration
Organised by the WACA Council, 86 interliners participated in a most successful 55th AGA held in Mauritius from 18–23 September. Tours highlighting the islands many beauty spots were arranged and tasting the islands different flavoured rums on one of the tours was a highlight for many participants along with a wonderful catamaran night time cruise.
Pre- and Post-AGA Tours
Twenty-seven participants were on the pre-AGA tour of beautiful Seychelles with four participants on the tour of the spectacular island of Réunion. Five participants were on the post-AGA tour of Nosey Be Island in fascinating Madagascar with seven participants opting for the Southern Madagascar tour.
The Elton Clelford Travel and Trust Fund
A formal proposal was received at the 55th AGA from the Vancouver I.C. executive following a consultation with the president of the Vancouver I.C. and the Regional Coordinator for North America to decide what option to take regarding the disposal of monies in this charity fund that had been requested by the WACA President at the 54th AGA.
The Vancouver I.C. proposal stated that it was delighted to announce its decision to donate the remaining funds from the Elton Clelford Travel and Trust Fund to Hope Air. Hope Air is Canada's only national charity dedicated to providing free flights and accommodations for healthcare to those who need it most. Its mission deeply resonates with the Club’s values and commitment to supporting communities across Canada.
There was USD 1,874.91 in the Fund and a cheque was issued in that amount and sent to the Vancouver I.C. to be presented to Hope Air. The cheque was duly presented to Stephanie Aldridge, Executive Director of Hope Air by the Vancouver I.C. President, Freddie Whiting, accompanied by members of the Club’s Executive Committee. Below is a picture that was taken at the presentation on 4 November in front of the Haida Gwaii (Jade Canoe) sculpture in the Vancouver International airport.
Stephanie sent a message of thanks to WACA via the Vancouver I.C. saying she would share the information about the donation on Hope Air’s social media site. She also sent stories of two of its sweetest patients, Atticus and Sienna, highlighting the wonderful work being undertaken by Hope Air.
